Graduation is what we refer to as degree conferral. This happens after a student has successfully completed all of their required degree requirements and submitted the required Degree and Diploma Application (DDA).

Commencement is the annual ceremony in which any student with 135 or more units by the end of Winter Quarter may choose to participate. Participation in the commencement ceremony does not constitute official graduation from the University.

Once grades are finalized for the quarter, the Major Department reviews the records of students who applied to graduate in that quarter. If the student has completed all requirements for the major, the Major Department signs off on the student's records and then the College reviews the student's records to make sure the student has completed all GE requirements and University requirements. If the student has completed those requirements, the College signs off on the student's records and sends them to the Registrar's office. The Registrar then finalizes (confers) the student's records, prints the diploma, and mails the diploma to the student's Permanent Address on Tritonlink.

Due to the volume of students, it usually takes 30-90 days from the time grades are finalized for the degree to be conferred. Upon degree conferral, a student's academic history will display that information.

**IMPORTANT** Please note that if you are completing your degree requirements during the summer, your degree will not be officially conferred until the end of Summer Session II, regardless of when you finish your coursework. The degree conferral process for summer graduates typically begins in mid-September.

You can participate in the commencement ceremony, even if you are not graduating in the Spring quarter (i.e. graduating in Summer or Fall). You may only participate in the commencement ceremony once. Information about commencement will be posted on Revelle's Commencement Webpage.
