Sixty years ago, UC San Diego's undergraduate program began with a small but ambitious vision. A core curriculum in the humanities, social sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, and mathematics was established. The first undergraduate library, located in Building E (now Galbraith Hall), provided essential resources for students. As we celebrate this milestone, we honor the past while looking toward a future filled with innovation, discovery, and positive impact.
To create a new world, we must first create within ourselves a higher concern for good, a stronger will for right action, and a deeper sense of brotherhood

This is the latest installment of the signature Humanities Event Series and is presented by the Humanities Program in partnership with the Department of Theater + Dance. It is co-sponsored by the UC San Diego Parents Fund, the Revelle College 60th Anniversary Committee, the UC San Diego Alumni Association, Chicanx and Latinx Studies, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Additional support was provided by UCLA's Diversifying the Classics.
On the final Friday of the winter quarter, enjoy music, a barbeque lunch, and birthday cake at the Revelle Plaza in honor of our namesake, Roger Revelle.
In 1965, a Revelle College faculty member and his physics students held the first Watermelon Drop to measure the velocity of a dropped object (by its splat). As a prelude to the 60th anniversary celebration, Revelle alumni were invited back to campus to participate in the tradition. Revelle Plaza was filled with “drop-goers” who enjoyed the occasion, and the watermelon!
