2020 - Present

Around the World...

The year 2020 presented many challenges on a global scale. The SARS-COV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, known in early 2020 as simply "the coronavirus" began to trigger alerts all over the world as it spread across different countries and continents. With the severity of the virus being realized, countries shut down in order to stop the spread, precipitating one of the biggest economic slumps in decades. At the national level, as cases and deaths from COVID-19 surged, a historically quick vaccine was developed during the end of the Trump administration. After a drawn-out election in the midst of a full-fledged pandemic, former Vice President Joseph Biden and Senator from California Kamala Harris were elected to be President and Vice President of the United States.

At UC San Diego and Revelle College..

During the 2020 Winter Quarter, the university actively tracked the virus and its severity as Winter finals were moved to a remote format. On March 14th, 2020 California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a Stay-at-Home order in response to the now global pandemic and the 2020 Spring Quarter was moved to a fully remote format. Students, staff, and faculty were forced to relearn how to approach teaching, administration, and what the university experience was about. Revelle College began to focus on the virtual experience and how to support students and staff. With the creation of the Return to Learn program, weekly testing and masking became the new normal of the campus population.
