Summer Class Information

For New Revelle Students

CAUTION:

If you choose to take summer courses prior to starting at UCSD, it is your responsibility to make sure that you do not enroll in courses for which you have already received credit through AP or IB exams or community college classes. To avoid duplicate credit, carefully review Revelle’s AP and IB charts and use Assist.org. Advisors will not be able to advise you on summer coursework because they do not have access to your official records until August. However, Revelle Advising has provided the following tips and suggestions for choosing summer classes.

Suggestions for New Freshman Students

Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR): If you have not met the ELWR through one of the university conditions, complete a UC-transferable English Composition course (with a letter grade of a 'C' or better) at a community college prior to the start of Fall Quarter. Visit ASSIST and click UC Transfer Admission Eligibility Courses - UC Transfer Eligibility Area - UC-E English Composition to search for eligible courses.

General Education Requirements: Select courses to fulfill general education requirements you have not already satisfied through AP/IB credit or community college coursework. Review the Revelle College General Education (GE) requirements for more information about each requirement.

Major Requirements: Contact your major advisor for suggestions on courses you can use to fulfill major requirements. For more information regarding your major, visit the department website.

Suggestions for New Transfer Students

Complete IGETC: If you are not IGETC certified, meet with your community college counselor for information on courses you can take in the summer to receive this certification. Please also view Revelle’s Requirements for IGETC Transfer Students. Note: IGETC certification is not listed on your community college transcript. UCSD Admissions requires an IGETC certification form sent to their office.

Major Requirements: Contact your major advisor for suggestions on courses you can use to fulfill major requirements. For more information regarding your major, visit the department website.
