Summer Class Information

For New FreshmanStudents

CAUTION:

If you choose to take courses over the summer, it is your responsibility to make sure that you are not repeating courses in which you were already given credit through AP or IB exam scores.  Revelle College counselors will not be able to formally advise you for courses taken over the summer because counselors do not have access to your official records until early August. However, counselors have provided the following tips and suggestions for choosing summer school classes.
  • Review the Revelle College General Education (GE) requirements.
  • Use ASSIST.ORG - To help you choose transferable courses for the Revelle College General Education (GE) requirements.
  • If you have AP or IB credit- Review the AP chart and/or the IB chart on the Revelle College website to find out what kind of credit you will receive at UCSD. If you received credit for a UCSD course, DO NOT take the equivalent course at a community college.
    • For example, if you  received credit for BILD 1, 2, and 3 from your AP biology score of 5, DO NOT take the equivalent courses for BILD 1, 2, or 3 at a community college because you have already received credit for these classes at UCSD.
  • Academic Advising Process- For more information on the advising process for Fall classes, click here. Please be aware of the summer dates and deadlines.

Suggestions for Requirements that You Can Fulfill/Begin in the Summer

Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR): If you have not met the ELWR through one of the university conditions, complete a UC transferable English Composition course at a community college prior to the start of Fall Quarter.  Go to the ELWR Approved Transfer Course List to find an approved transfer course to satisfy ELWR.

American Cultures: Use assist.org to find an approved transfer course.

Fine Arts: Take any UC transferable music, dance, art, or theater class.

Language: If you have studied a language before, but do not have AP language credit (or college level credit), take a language placement exam at the community college to be placed into the proper level in the language sequence.

View the AP chart if you have an AP language score of 3,4, or 5.

Please view the Revelle College Language Requirement page for more information on other ways the language requirement can be met.

After You Complete Your Summer Class(es)

Send an official community college transcript to UCSD Admissions to receive credit.
