Revelle’s Gender Inclusive Housing Community

Revelle’s Gender Inclusive Housing Community is available to Revelle Continuing Students with a Housing Guarantee who have filled out the Room Selection application (available 4/18/2016-4/21/2016). This inclusive housing allows continuing residents of all genders to live together in the Charles David Keeling Apartments. If you need assistance in seeking out a group that may be interested in gender inclusive housing, please contact the Revelle Residence Life Office at 858-534-3025 or at revreslife@ucsd.edu.

To apply for Revelle’s Gender Inclusive Housing Community please click here. This application will close on Friday, April 22nd, 2016 at 11:59pm.

Application Process:

  1. Think about who you would want to live with in this unique community.
    1. It would be wise to have conversations with the group you plan on applying with about what it means to live in housing that does not consider gender, gender identity or gender expression, and has all people living together. This is in contrast to the current gendered living spaces throughout the rest of housing.
    2. Make sure that the people you sign up with are SERIOUS about making a yearlong commitment to living in a gender inclusive apartment.
    3. For a groups’ application to be considered, the group must make a full household. A full household is defined as a 6-person apartment (2 double rooms, 2 single rooms). Furthermore, occupants of the double bedrooms must be of the same sex.
  2. Successful applicant groups possess the following:
    1. Demonstrate and articulate a genuine motivation for living in a gender inclusive household in the application and interview.
    2. Need to address in their application how they will deal with conflict (including relationship conflict) and have a cooperative living lifestyle.
    3. Demonstrate commitment to current relationships between housemates. We would expect that you and your potential housemates have a previously established friendship.
    4. Need to have applied online for Room Selection by completing the Personal History Form, signing the online contract and making the $450 prepayment during the designated application period of April 18th – April 21st.
  3. All materials in the application are due by Friday, April 22nd, 2016. Please feel free to contact our Office if you have any questions.
    1. If approved for Gender Inclusive Housing each person MUST sign and submit a Gender Inclusive Living Agreement. The form will be available at the Revelle Residence Life Office.
  4. Applications will be screened and forwarded to the Residence Life Staff.
  5. Groups that are selected will be notified Wednesday, April 27th, 2016, and will need to provide written acceptance by Monday, May 2nd, 2016.

Important Information Before The Room Selection Process:

  • Applications will be restricted to the college of registration for placement (except at I-House and The Village).
  • If selected for a Gender Inclusive placement, room changes or room swaps will not be allowed (including apartment changes). Changes to group commitment before the housing application is submitted will be subject to reevaluation.
  • If a student cancels and does not notify the Revelle Residence Life Office and Housing*Dining*Hospitality of said cancellation, or if the student has already been pre-placed and cancels, they will be subject to the cancellation policy and any applicable fees.
  • If a space becomes vacant due to a Contract Termination from someone in your group and cannot be filled, the apartment group may be consolidated or converted into single gendered apartment. Even if only one person cancels. Remaining group members will be offered a late room selection time slot or may be placed in any available space on campus. The Revelle Residence Life Office has the authority to reconfigure the apartment and move people around however they see fit if a circumstance like this were to arise. For this reason, it is in your best interested to sign up with people who are serious about making a yearlong commitment to living in gender inclusive apartment.
  • Pre-placement of gender inclusive households will occur before Room Selection
