How do I get into the Orientation session I want?

It is very important that you register for orientation on the New Student Site as soon as you receive your instruction email (mid-May). Each session will be closed for registration once a session reaches its maximum capacity.

back to questions

After I've registered for orientation, may I change it to a different session?

You may make a change to your orientation session, but must do so by the registration deadline.  After the deadline, you must send a request by sending an email to  revelleorientation@ucsd.edu; however, there is no guarantee of changing the session.

Please include the following information in your request:

  • Student's name
  • PID
  • Phone number
  • Original session date
  • Session change request

All requests must be received at least five business days before your confirmed session begins and will be honored only if space and staffing limitations allow.

back to questions

Is there a charge to change my orientation registration or if I need to register after the deadline?

A $25.00 administrative fee may be assessed for each change that is made with less than five business days notification. This also includes those students who do not register for orientation by the given deadline. Please see the chart below to avoid the $25.00 administrative fee:

back to questions

Do I have to attend the entire one- or two-day session?

Yes, you must attend the entire one- or two-day session and the overnight component of the program.

For September orientations, only students who have a housing contract will stay overnight on campus during orientation.

Every part of the one- or two-day session is important to your success at UC San Diego. When orientation is over you will have a better idea of how the various Revelle offices and procedures work together and can expect a smoother transition when classes start.

Students who leave orientation early or miss sessions may be required to attend a make-up orientation and have holds placed on their record.

Check in at the side of Galbraith hall near the La Jolla Project (aka Stonehenge) at 8:00 am for June sessions and 7:30 am for September sessions.
Check out for June sessions at 12:30 pm on Day 2 and for September sessions at 9:30 pm.

back to questions

What is early housing?

Early housing means that you can spend the night in the residence halls the night before your orientation if you register for sessions 2 and 3. Early housing is not available for those attending session 1.

If you have a guaranteed housing contact and are attending session 4 or 5, you are required to move in on September 18, 2019.

All session attendees must spend the night in the residence halls during orientation, unless there is an outstanding circumstance, or if you do not have a housing contract (September only). If you are unable to spend the night in the residence hall during orientation, please email revelleorientation@ucsd.edu

Housing in residence halls during the September sessions 4 and 5 is available  only for students who have  confirmed housing contracts for the academic year. Students who attend session 4 or 5 who do not have housing contracts must make their own arrangements.

A $50/day early housing fee will be added to August or October UC San Diego billing statements for those who attend sessions 2 and 3 and move in early.

back to questions

Where do I check-in for early housing?

June Sessions 2 or 3

If you are confirmed for an additional night's lodging, check in is available 7:00 am - 9:00 pm at the Revelle Conference Center Desk, located in the Blake Hall College Center.

If you attend session 2 or 3 and have signed up for early housing, you must purchase your own parking permit for that day at the Pay-and-Display station located in Parking Lot P103. Parking permits for the two-day orientation will be available at check in of the first morning of orientation.

If you arrive after 9:00pm, there will be a number posted on the Blake Hall College Center door; the person on-call will check you in. back to questions

Can I bring someone to orientation?

Only Revelle College students admitted to the fall quarter may attend first-year student orientation. Family members are welcome to attend parent and family orientation. Family is defined by you; we can accommodate 2 family members.

Since orientation is a self-supporting program, each adult who attends must pay the parent and family orientation fee of $80 per person. A concurrent but separate parent and family orientation session is offered during each first-year student orientation session.  Parents and family members must make their own reservation.

Parents and families must be invited by the student, following instructions on the New Student site. Once the student does this, parents and family members will automatically receive an email invitation to register for parent and family orientation.

back to questions

How much does orientation cost? How do I pay?

Orientation fees include a t-shirt, four meals, the Revelle College App, a variety of Welcome Week activities, and the required Convocation meal on Tuesday, September 24. Welcome Week activities take place form September 23 - 29.

Do not send payment for the orientation fee. The fee will be reviewed by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office to determine whether any part of the fee will be covered by your financial aid. The remainder of the fee, if any, will be billed to your University account in August or October billing statement.

June Session Fees (session 1, 2, 3)

All students: $255, which includes one night of required on-campus housing. This fee does not include early housing. Early housing, if available and needed, will be an additional $50.00 and will be added to your orientation fee. Early housing allows you to spend one night before orientation begins.
