How do I get into the Orientation session I want?

It is very important that you register for orientation on the Orientation Registration page at the end of COMPASS, as soon as you receive your instruction email (mid-May). Each session will be closed for registration once a session reaches its maximum capacity. Remember to complete your New Triton Advising and COMPASS before registering for orientation. The deadline for completing orientation registration is July 31.

back to questions

After I've registered for orientation, may I change it to a different session?

You may make a change to your orientation session, but must do so by July 31.  After this deadline, you must send a request by sending an email to revelleorientation@ucsd.edu; however, there is no guarantee of changing the session.

Please include the following information in your request:

  • Student's name
  • PID
  • Phone number
  • Original session date
  • Session change request

All requests must be received at least five business days before your confirmed session begins and will be honored only if space and staffing limitations allow.

back to questions

Is there a charge to change my orientation registration or if I need to register after the deadline?

A $25.00 administrative fee may be assessed for each change that is made with less than five business days' notification. This administrative fee also applies to those students who do not register for orientation by July 31. Please see the chart below to avoid the $25.00 administrative fee:

Do I have to attend the entire orientation session?

Yes, you must attend the entire session.

Only students who have a housing contract will stay overnight on campus during orientation.

Every part of the session is important to your success at UC San Diego. When orientation is over you will have a better idea of how the various Revelle offices and procedures work together and can expect a smoother transition when classes start.

Students who leave orientation early or miss sessions may be required to attend a make-up orientation and have holds placed on their record.

back to questions

What is early housing?

Early housing means that you can move into your residence hall room prior to the official move-in day of September 26 if you have a guaranteed housing contract.

A $46/night ousing fee will be added to September or October UC San Diego billing statements for those who move in early.

back to questions

Where do I check-in for early housing?

If you have a housing contract, you will select your move-in date that best fits your travel plans. You can choose to move in prior to the standard September 26 move-in date for $46/night; however, you MAY NOT move in on the day of your selected orientation session.

Check in during your assigned time at the check-in stations outside Blake Hall.

In addition, you must check in for first-year-student orientation on the morning of your session even if you have checked in for move-in.

Students without a housing contract - Housing in residence halls is only available for students who have confirmed housing contracts for the academic year. Students who attend orientation and who do not have housing contracts, must make their own arrangements. A list of local hotels can be found HERE.

back to questions

Do all students stay overnight in the residence halls?

Housing in residence halls is only available for students who have confirmed housing contracts for the academic year. Students who attend orientation and who do not have housing contracts, must make their own arrangements. A list of local hotels can be found HERE.

back to questions

Can I bring someone to orientation?

Only Revelle College students admitted to the fall quarter may attend first-year student orientation. Family members are welcome to attend parent and family orientation. "Family" is defined by you; we can accommodate 2 family members.

Since orientation is a self-supporting program, each adult who attends must pay the parent and family orientation fee of $40 per person. A concurrent but separate parent and family orientation session is offered during each first-year student orientation session.  Parents and family members must make their own reservation after their student has invited them to register.

Parents and families must be invited by the student, following instructions on the Orientation Registration page at the end of COMPASS. Once the student does this, parents and family members will automatically receive an email invitation to register for parent and family orientation.

back to questions

How much does orientation cost? How do I pay?

Orientation fees include a t-shirt, three meals, the Revelle College App, a variety of Welcome Week activities, and the required Convocation meal on Tuesday, September 29. Welcome Week activities take place from September 23 - October 3.

Do not send payment for the orientation fee. The fee will be billed to your University account in September or October billing statement.

All students: $205.00

Students with housing contracts who choose to move in early: an additional $46/night prior to September 26

Students MAY NOT move in on the day of your selected orientation. You must select a move-in date that does not conflict with the date of your orientation session. All attendees of the September 26 orientation must move in on September 25.
