Apply to be a Resident Advisor

• Review the Resident Advisor (RA) job description.
  
  
• Attend a Candidate Information Session (attendance at an information session is optional, but highly recommended – this will be an opportunity to hear more about the position and ask any questions you might have).
  
  
• Fill out the online application (http://tinyurl.com/ucsdRAapp2012) by 11:59pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. You may apply to as many of UC San Diego’s seven residential communities as you would like. Visit each community’s website for additional instructions regarding their application process.
  
  
• Distribute the link to the reference form (http://tinyurl.com/ucsdRArec2012) to the two people who will be writing your recommendations. See specific instructions for recommendations below. The deadline for reference submissions is the same as the online application deadline (11:59pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2012).
  
  
• Sign up for a Group Interview session in the Revelle Residence Life Office (located on the first floor of Blake Hall, near Plaza Café). Sign ups will be available Thursday, January 19 – Sunday, January 22.

Recommendation Instructions

• Distribute recommendation forms.  Two recommendations are required. Reference writers must submit their confidential recommendation using the online form. Additional space is provided for personalized comments regarding your skills, which we strongly encourage. You will also need to provide the following information to your references: your first and last name as they appear on your UC San Diego records, phone number, and the names of the communities to which you are applying. Revelle, Marshall, and Sixth Colleges are using the online reference form. If you are applying to any of these communities, only one submission is required, but your reference will need to check the appropriate box(es) on the form in order for it to be sent to the correct office(s). Warren College is utilizing the same form, in PDF – you can advise your references that they may copy and paste answers from the PDF into the online form.
  
  
• One of the required letters must be completed by a Resident Advisor: We strongly recommend your letter be from your current or past RA. If you have not lived on a college/university campus, you may contact any RA (or former residence life staff member) who is familiar with your skills. Any exceptions must be approved in advance by the selection coordinator, Janice Lew Santos (jlew@ucsd.edu).
  
  
• Second letter: It is recommended that the remaining reference letter be completed by an individual who is familiar with your leadership skills or work style, such as a former supervisor, a student organization advisor, a student leader, or a faculty member. We strongly encourage letters from UC San Diego staff members. Former teachers, mentors, coaches, or advisors are also acceptable.
