What should I bring?

Bring your own towels, pillow, bedding to fit an extra long twin bed (36" x 80") and a non-halogen desk lamp. You may also bring a telephone, stereo, television, fan, clock, computer, printer, power surge protector, and mini-vacuum. Bringing a personal first aid kit is also a great idea, in case of emergency. For more information on items you should bring, check out our Pinterest page!

Once you receive your room assignment information in early September, it is a good idea to call your new roommates and discuss what each of you will bring. Click here for more information.

Remember, at the end of the year you are responsible for removing all of the items you "move-in"! We will have donation bins, recycling, and trash dumpsters available, but we do not offer storage on campus. Keep this in mind when you're bringing items in September!

Should I bring my car?

It really depends on your needs. Having a car is definitely not necessary and not brining one to campus will save you money. Transportation and Parking Services offers numerous free campus shuttles to help students get around, both on and off campus. Please visit their website for more information.

When will I find out who my roommates/suitemates are?

Our office will send out a welcome letter in late August/early September with important move-in information including the link to access your room assignment, mailbox number, and roommate information online. Make sure to check your e-mail at least once a day!

How are roommates assigned to first-year students?

Students are matched based on their gender and preferences indicated on their Personal History Form. Date of application and college plays a large role in your assignment.

How does mail work?

There are a couple of different ways packages and mail are delivered:

1.  USPS packages with normal delivery are sent to campus, processed by the UCSD Student Mail center and delivered to each of the college parcel centers. Student will be notified via e-mail that they received a package and will be able to pick it up Monday-Friday from 12pm-4pm.

2. UPS, FedEx, Ontrac, DHL and USPS priority mail is delivered to the Revelle Residence Life Office. Our staff checks it in to the parcel system. Student are notified via e-mail (to their UCSD e-mail) that they have a package and they are able to pick it up Monday-Friday from 8am-9pm and Saturday-Sunday from 12pm-9pm. Student must have a picture ID in order to pick up their package (UCSD ID preferred).

3. All envelope mail (that is not expedited) will be delivered to the student mailboxes. Each student receives a mailbox combination when they return their room inventory form.

Students may start receiving mail on Monday October 1st.

All packages must be addressed as follows:

Student Name
Box #
9450 Gilman Dr.
La Jolla, CA 92092-0100

Mail box numbers are assigned to every student living on campus (you will receive your address in late August/early September along with your roommate assignment) . For Revelle, the box numbers start with a number 7.

What do I need to have with me in order to move-in?

Please make sure to have the following items with you when you move-in:

1) Photo ID

2) Move-In Ticket (each student will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to print their move-in ticket).

3) If you (the student) are under 18 years of age, please make sure to have your completed Under 18 Liability Waiver.

If you are a returning student, please make sure to have your UCSD ID with you. New students-you will receive your ID at move-in.

Do I need to have renter's insurance for my campus living space?

Although not mandatory, it is highly recommended that you carry renter's insurance to protect your personal property (such as computers and other valuables). Here is a link to follow that is specifically designed for UC San Diego renters: ucsd.salliemaeinsurance.com/renters

Can I bring a refrigerator or microwave?

Yes. You may want to bring your own mini refrigerator (one small refrigerator is allowed in each room). It must be smaller than five cubic feet and have a safe UL-approved electrical system. Microwaves may also be brought. Check with roommates to make sure you don't duplicate items.
