How do I get into the Orientation session I want?

If your schedule will only allow you to attend one session, it is very important that you make your online reservation as soon as you receive your email to register for Orientation.  Each session will be closed for registration once it reaches maximum capacity.

We encourage non-residents to attend the September session.

After I've made my reservation, can I change it to a different date?

You may make a change to your Orientation session, but must do so by June 7, 2013.  After the deadline, you must email your request to revelleorientation@ucsd.edu.

Please include the following information in your request:

  • Student's full legal name
  • PID
  • Phone number
  • Original Orientation session number and date
  • Session/Date change request

No phone or in-person requests will be accepted.
Change requests must be received at least ten business days prior to your confirmed session.  The requested session will only be honored if space and staffing limitations allow.

Is there a charge to change my Orientation reservation, or if I need to register after the deadline?

A $50.00 administrative fee will be assessed for each change that is made with less than ten business days notification.  This also includes those students who do not register for Orientation by the given deadline.  Please see the chart below to avoid the $50.00 administrative fee:

Do all students stay overnight in the residence halls?

All students who attend a June Orientation session are lodged in the residence halls on the night of the first day of their session.   Early lodging is available for Sessions 2, 3, and 4.

All students must spend the night in the residence halls during Orientation unless there is an outstanding circumstance.  If you will not be able to spend the night in the residence halls please email revelleorientation@ucsd.edu.

Lodging in the residence halls during the September session is available only for students who have confirmed housing contracts for the academic year. Students who attend the September session but do not have housing contracts must make their own lodging arrangements. A list of local hotels can be found at here.

For Parents Note:
On-campus lodging is not available for parents/family in September. You may wish to take advantage of  off-campus accommodations.

Can I bring someone to Orientation?

Only Revelle College students admitted to the Fall quarter may attend New Student Orientation - ALL others are welcome to attend Parent Orientation.

Since Orientation is a self-supporting program, each person who attends, including children, must pay the Orientation fee. To make reservations for a parent/family member, please have your parent/family member make their reservation at http://newparent.ucsd.edu.

How much does Orientation cost? How do I pay?

JUNE SESSION FEES (Session 1, 2, and 3):
All students:                                          $189.00*

SEPTEMBER SESSION FEES (Session 4):
Students with housing contracts:              $220.00*
Students without housing contracts:          $158.00

* This fee does not include early lodging.  Early lodging, if available and needed, will be an additional $31.00, and will be added to your Orientation fee. Please note early lodging will not be available for Session 1.

The fee includes meals, materials, Revelle College items, a student handbook, and a variety of Welcome Week activities which take place just before classes start in September.

Students attending the September session who does not have a housing contract for the academic year must make their own lodging arrangements.

Do not send payment for the New Student Orientation fee. The fee will be reviewed by the Office of Student Financial Services to determine whether any part of it (up to $158) will be covered by your financial aid.  The remainder of the fee, if any, will be billed to your university account in either the August or October billing statement.

Please note: Parent Orientation fees and payment options are different than New Student Orientation fees and payments.  Parent Orientation fees and payment options can be viewed in the FAQ section of the New Parent website (http://newparent.ucsd.edu).

What should I bring to my Orientation session?

Bring personal items you would pack when staying overnight away from home. Sheets, a light blanket, a pillow, and towel are provided. Dress casually and wear comfortable walking shoes.  Bring your backpack, a hat for our warm days, and a sweater or jacket for our cool evenings. Residence hall rooms are double occupancy, with roommates randomly assigned for Orientation. Maid service and wake-up calls are not provided. Bring an alarm clock so you'll be on time for the second morning of your session!

I signed up for the September session. Can I move into my residence hall earlier than the official move-in date?

Yes, all students who have an on-campus housing contract and are attending the September Orientation can move-in to their assigned residence hall before the official move in date.

We strongly recommend that those students who have on-campus housing contracts and are signed up for the September session, sign up for early lodging.  This means you will be able to move in to your assigned room for the academic year on September 18.  You will have the day to leisurely move your belongings in before Orientation begins on September 19.

If you do not sign up for early lodging, you will get the key to your residence hall on September 19 when you check in for Orientation.  You will only have a short time to place your belongings in your room and be ready for orientation at 9am.

For Parents Note:
On-campus lodging is not available for parents/family in September. You may wish to take advantage of  off-campus accommodations.

Where do I check in for Orientation?

Please check-in at the south side of Galbraith Hall at 8am for sessions in June or 9am for the September session.

Where do I park during Orientation?

Please park your car in parking lot P102 or P103.  After parking your car, be sure to obtain a parking permit when you check in for Orientation.  You will need to put this permit in your car after you have checked in.

If you have signed up for early lodging, you must purchase your own parking permit for that day from the Pay and Display paystation in lot P103.  You will receive your other parking permits for the days of Orientation at Orientation check-in.
