How do I get into the Orientation session I want?

It is very important that you register for orientation as soon as you receive your instruction email (mid-May). Each session will be closed for registration once a session reaches its maximum capacity.

back to questions

After I've registered for orientation, may I change it to a different session?

You may make a change to your orientation session, but must do so by the registration deadline.  After the deadline, you must send a request by sending an email to revelleorientation@ucsd.edu; however, there is no guarantee of changing the session.

Please include the following information in your request:

  • Student's name
  • PID
  • Phone number
  • Original session date
  • Session change request

All requests must be received at least five business days before your confirmed session begins and will be honored only if space and staffing limitations allow.

back to questions

Is there a charge to change my orientation registration or if I need to register after the deadline?

A $25.00 administrative fee may be assessed for each change that is made with less than five business days notification. This also includes those students who do no register for orientation by the given deadline. Please see the chart below to avoid the $25.00 administrative fee:

back to questions

Do I have to attend the entire two-day session?

Yes, you must attend the entire two-day session and the overnight component of the program.

For September orientation, only students who have a housing contract will stay overnight on campus during orientation.

Every part of the two-day session is important to your success at UCSD. When orientation is over you will know how to enroll in your classes and will have a better idea of how the various UCSD offices and procedures work together. When you attend the entire session, you can expect a smoother transition when classes begin in September.

back to questions

What is early housing?

Early housing means that you can spend the night in the residence halls the night before your orientation if you register for sessions 2 and 3. Early housing is not available for those attending session 1.

If you have a guaranteed housing contact and are attending session 4, you are required to move in on September 19, 2018.

All sessions 2, 3, and 4 (with housing contracts) attendees must spend the night in the residence halls during orientation, unless there is an outstanding circumstance. If you are unable to spend the night in the residence hall during orientation, please email revelleorientation@ucsd.edu

Housing in residence halls during the September session 4 is available only for students who have confirmed housing contracts for the academic year. Students who attend Session 4 who do not have housing contracts must make their own arrangements.

A $50/day early housing fee will be added to August or October UC San Diego billing statements for those attending sessions 2 and 3.

back to questions

Where do I check-in for early housing?

If you are confirmed for an additional night's lodging BEFORE your June orientation session 2 or 3, check in is available 7:00 am - 9:00 pm at the Revelle Conference Center Desk, located in the Blake Hall College Center.

If you attend session 2 or 3 and have signed up for early housing, you must purchase your own parking permit for that day at the Pay-and-Display station located in Parking Lot P103. Parking permits for the two-day orientation will be available at check in of the first morning of orientation.

If you arrive after 9:00pm, there will be a number posted on the Blake Hall College Center door; the person on-call will check you in. Please keep in mind that it may take up to 15 minutes or longer for someone to come and check you in. The phone number for the Revelle Conference Center Desk is 1-858-534-3303 or 1-858-534-4165.

In addition, you must check in for first-year student orientation on the morning of the first day, even if you have checked in for early housing. The check-in for orientation sessions 1, 2, 3, and 4, is located on Revelle Plaza.

If you are confirmed for an additional night's housing BEFORE your September orientation session 4:

Check in between 10:00am-4:00pm at the Revelle Residence Life Office in Blake Hall.

If you have signed up for early housing and move-in (session 4 only), you must purchase your own parking permit for that day at the Pay-and-Display station located in Parking Lot P103. Parking permits for the two-day orientation wlll be available at orientation check-in on September 20.

back to questions

Do all students stay overnight in the residence halls?

All students who attend June orientation sessions 1, 2 and 3 are housed in the residence halls on the night of the first day of their session. If there is an outstanding circumstance and you are unable to spend the night in the residence hall, please email revelleorientation@ucsd.edu.

Early housing is NOT available for session 1. Click here for hotel accommodations nearby campus.

back to questions

Can I bring someone to orientation?

Only Revelle College students admitted to the fall quarter may attend first-year student orientation. Adults 18 and over are welcome to attend parent and family orientation..

Since orientation is a self-supporting program, each adult who attends must pay the parent and family orientation fee of $80 per person. A concurrent but separate parent and family orientation session is offered during each first-year student orientation session.  Parents and family members must make their own reservation. Students are required to provide at least one parent email in the New Student site. Once the student does this, parents will automatically receive an email invitation to register for parent and family orientation.

back to questions

How much does Orientation cost? How do I pay?

JUNE SESSION FEES (session 1, 2, 3):

All students: $255.00 + $50 overnight fee for early housing (the $50 applies to sessions 2 and 3 only)

SEPTEMBER SESSION FEES (session 4):

   Students with housing contracts: $355.00
   Students without housing contracts: $205.00

Students attending September session 4 who do not have housing contracts for the academic year must make their own housing arrangements.

Do not send payment for the first-year orientation fee. The fee will be reviewed by the Office of Student Financial Services to determine whether or not any part of it will be covered by your financial aid. The remainder of the fee, if any, will be billed to your university account in either the August or October billing statements.

Please Note: Parent and family orientation fees ($80/person) and payment options are different than first-year student orientation fees and payments.
