Mathematics Requirements

Three courses in Mathematics, which include two courses in Calculus and one additional Mathematics course chosen from the approved list

Calculus courses:

  • Math 10A or 20A
  • Math 10B or 20B

Approved list of Mathematics courses:

  • Math 10C - Calculus III
  • Math 20C - Calculus and Analytic Geometry for Science and Engineering
  • Math 11 - Calculus-based Introductory Probability and Statistics
  • Math 18 - Linear Algebra (formerly Math 20F)
  • Phil 10 - Introduction to Logic

This requirement must be taken for a Letter Grade. 

Note: Verify Mathematics courses with major and/or minor department requirements.

Math Placement Exam

The Math Placement Exam (MPE) is required for all new students, including those enrolling in Math 3C, unless you have one of the following exemptions:

  • AP Calculus AB or BC test score (2 or higher)

  • IB Higher Level Math test score (5, 6 or 7)

  • SAT Subject Test in Math Level 2 (600 or higher for Math 10A, 650 or higher for Math 20A)

  • Community College or University Course in calculus with a grade C- or better

The Math Placement Exam (MPE) may be repeated.

Math 31AH - 31BH - 31CH

IB SCORE - HIGHER LEVEL EXAM
5, 6 or 7
(8 units)
Enroll in Math 20B or 10B

NOTE: If series and differential equations completed, may petition to receive credit for both 20A and 20B or 10A and 10B.

NOTE:  If you take lower level course than the AP or IB chart indicates, you will not be given credit for that course.

PREVIOUS COLLEGE CALCULUS

If you received previous college credit, you will not be given credit for repeating the equivalent course.

1 semester = Math 20A or 10A
1 year = Math 10A, 10B, and 10C or Math 20A & 20B
